Unwrap It!

It's a good idea to "let" the Bible say what it says.

For instance, 2 Peter 1.3:

"His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. "

Notice the "has"?

Can't help but wonder how much time I/we waste asking for stuff we already have? "Oh,Lord, please give me more love." "Lord Jesus, give me more power." "Father, grant me more patience."

But...but...but...He has already given us everything required for life and godliness!

Seems to me most of us receive the gift of eternal life and then spend the rest of our earthly journey playing with the wrapping paper instead of unwrapping the gift.

What's in the gift? More than we can imagine...

But...there is peace, joy, longsuffering. There is identity, power, love. There is so, so much.

And we get to keep unpacking!

Reminds me of "Lord, give me more of your Spirit."

Say what?

Holy Spirit is a Person in the trinity. He is not an "it."

And if He is a Person, how can you have more of Him? You either got Him or you don't.

You don't just get His left leg. You get Him (and, yes, you get Him at the moment of conversion. You can argue other factors about 'baptism' etc if you want, but you can not deny that you receive Spirit at your conversion.

Excuse me, I've got to get back to digging through the gift...
