On this date I celebrate my...yikes...77th birthday! As I say occasionally - what is such a young guy like me doing in such an old body?

On my afternoon walk I was struck by the thought that I should write a series of 'sevens.' So, here goes...

7 Things You Probably Don't Know About Me

  1. I was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts

  2. I had one sibling, Bob, who was eleven years older than me. (I?)

  3. When I was 10 I won a set of Compton's Encyclopedias from "Ask Andy."

  4. My given name is John.

  5. I wrestled Gregory Peck's son in high school...and won.

  6. I have attended three Billy Graham crusades: Kansas City, Cleveland, Rochester

  7. My left eye was severely damaged by a three-person-sling-shotted water ballon on 7./8/09

7 People Who Massively Impacted My Life

  1. Merlyn Carothers (Author of Prison to Praise. A copy of that book was in Tom Greene County Jail; I read it out of boredom; it was my introduction to the Lord Jesus.

  2. Unknown - the person - male, female, Baptist, Assembly of God, Methodist etc; white, black, brown...who donated the book to the jail.

  3. Probably the Gideons - but I don't know for a fact - so whoever donated the Bible that I read in that jail cell. I''ve never been 'witnessed to,' I've never 'asked Jesus into my heart.' The Word of God did the work of God.

  4. Gene and Emma Gene West. A couple who knew nothing about me except what I told them who allowed me to live with them after I was paroled.

  5. Dr Al and Vidy Metsker. The founders of Kansas City Youth for Christ and Christ Unlimited Bible Institute who, they later said, after much discussion and prayer decided to let a recently paroled ex convict come to the school.

  6. Dr Dean Potratz, Dean and Professor at CUBI...a loving, wise man who grounded me in the Bible and in doctrine.

  7. Unremembered - whoever invited me to preach at my first camp....which has resulted in over four years of my life (if you add the weeks together) having the joy and privilege of speaking at summer camps.
